Ion Transport in an Electric Field

![]() | Overview and Learning ObjectivesIn this example, there are three types of particles: one with positive charge, one with negative charge, and the third with no charge. An electric field is applied in horizontal direction pointing eastward. Periodic boundary conditions are applied in order to allow continuous flowing of the particles. The heat bath is also activated to prevent the charged particles from getting infinitely accelerated by the electric field. With this model, you can investigate, for example, the effect of temperature on the electric conductivity of an aqueous solution. |
