Browsing by ModuleModule 5: Water and Other Small MoleculesOverviewThis module includes models of ionic, polar, and non-polar molecules in which students explore the electron density distribution around various functional groups and observe interactions between different small molecules in lipids and water. Special attention is given to the polar nature of water. Activities
Objectives and GoalsStudents will be able to: · Discover that water molecules are polar and that the polarity and the resulting network of hydrogen bonds makes water a liquid a room temperature and average atmospheric pressure. · Explore he the behavior of water toward charged and non-charged atoms. · Observe the formation of water shells around charged ions. · Change temperature and observe its effect on the formation of water shells. · investigate different small molecules in ways tbd(to be determined). |
