Module 6: Solutions and Solubility

Overview

In this module students will gain an understanding of how the particles behave with various soutions. By experimenting with an erythrocyte model, they should gain an understanding of diseases like cholera where the normal functioning of cell membranes breaks down.

THE LIVING ENVIRONMENT: CELLS - Every cell is covered by a membrane that controls what can enter and leave the cell.

THE LIVING ENVIRONMENT: Cells - A living cell is composed of a small number of chemical elements mainly carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, and sulfur.

THE PHYSICAL SETTING: FORCES OF NATURE - There are two kinds of charges, positive and negative.

THE PHYSICAL SETTING: THE EARTH - Life is adapted to conditions on the earth, including the force of gravity that enables the planet to retain an adequate aatmosphere, and an intensity of radiation from the sun that allows water to cycle between liquid and vapor.

Life Science: The Cell - Cells have particular structures that underlie their functions.

Physical Science: Motions and Forces - The electric force is a universal force that exists between any two charged objects.
