Quicktime for Java

  1. I have Quicktime installed. Why is that not enough?

  2. How do I install Quicktime for Java?

  3. I'm sure I did install the latest version of Quicktime, but testing my system still shows that "Quicktime for Java" is not installed (or QuickTime for Java was working before but it doesn't anymore).

1. I have Quicktime installed. Why is that not enough?

On OS X, Quicktime for Java should be included in the default Quicktime updates. On Windows, versions of Quicktime previous to version 7.0 did not include Qucktime for Java. If you download the latest version of Quicktime for Windows, then you will get Quicktime for Java as well.

There are a few possibilities here:

If so, you may need to reinstall QuickTime.

If this is the case, then search your hardrive for QTJava.zip and copy this file to the Java ext folder.

Typical location of QTJava.zip: C:\WINNT\system32\QTJava.zip

Typical location of ext folder to where this should be copied: C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_06\lib\ext\QTJava.zip
